Songwe border post immigration spokesperson Yusuf Shaib told Nyasa Times that  the Tanzanian immigration department has arrested over two hundred Malawians over the weekend.

Shaibu said the concerned Malawians have reported to his office that they are being tortured while Malawian women are being raped.

He said one of the concerned Malawian Jonathan Nantipwiri disclosed that fake police officers have also taken an advantage of the development.

“We are tortured, our women are being rapped by these Tanzanians. We are leaving a slave life here, please our country help us,” Nantipwiri tells Malawi Immigration Office at Songwe border.

Few weeks ago, a court in Tanzania fined three hundred Malawians to pay one million Tanzanian shirings (K350, 000) each for illegally staying in their country.

According to information sourced by Nyasa Times, most of the concerned Malawians are those coming from Nkhata bay district.

Meanwhile, Tanzanians leaving in Nkhata bay are now seeking refuge at the district police office after the irate residents are breaking their business shops and chasing them away.

U are right this is a job of foreign minister to deal with his countpart. U dont solve problem by revenging. We are neighbours. Malawians are kind people. We have people far away West Africans in our country. TZ are our brothers. If they treat us like that its not good for our relationship. Europe is closing their countries for Africans and If We do like Europe We give The ok to treat us bad. Lets solve this in a normal manner. Why our government jeep quite.

Please chase them. Not only in Nkhata Bay but wherever they are such as Mzuzu, Mzimba and Lilongwe. No mercy. In fact, our police have delayed to react. There a lot of Tanzanians living in Malawi illegally. Please smoke ???? them out. We are tired of being victims while we give foreign nationals respect. All those in Karonga have to leave. By the way, what is government doing about this?

Is this true? Cause this is not even news in our country (Tanzania).
And I hope you had facts before you before published such inciting news, I cant believe Tanzanians can take part in rape and torture of Malawians for whatsoever reasons. It is not our culture.

I know the pain that fellow Malawians may be feeling over this. But I do not believe this is the right way for both countries. We are neighbors and we need to have very cordial relationships. I would suggest that the foreign minister engages with his counterpart in Tanzania to resolve this amicably. While Magufuli is good, but I believe he is not doing so well on international relations. He is being too confrontational. To my fellow Malawians, let us try to be innovative here in our own country. Please note that home is home, you can not have another… Read more »

Dear Countrymen, The problem with our nation is that we want to play the game of a Mr Nice Boy. The size our nation does not even allow foreigners to ply their trade here considering that those opportunities are scares and should remain for Malawians even if it takes 100 years to develop. We are complaining of a booming population and at the same time we allow foreigners to permanently stay here. This is unreasonable. Second is the issue of resources. We allowed other nations to take our timber when they were reserving theirs and now we are in trouble.… Read more »

The issue is not whether there are Tanzanians living in Malawi or not but all foreigners living in Tanzania should have legal documents ( live legally). Likewise Tanzanians living abroad on any country Malawi inclusive must live according to the rules of each country and UN codes.
