Tay Grin donates K0.5m towards Masonda’s medical bill

Malawi’s hip-hop star Limbani Kalirani – known by his stage name Tay Grin  – on Friday donated a sum of K500, 000 towards former Big Bullets FC player Godfrey Masonda’s medical bill for his treatment at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The donation came after the artist pledged to assist the ex-Bullets striker who needed financial support amounting to K2.5 million to seek medical attention for heart problems in South Africa.

The Channel O award-nominee, in the month of July this year promised to donate part of the proceeds from the United Kingdom tour; of which he indeed fulfilled the pledge after his return from the UK.

“I was approached to help lobby for funding assistance, I opted to help because if I was in need too I would also appreciate if someone heard my plea and assisted. I promised to do my best to help raise the money needed,” explained Tay Grin.

Masonda travelled to South Africa  where he was admitted to Milpark Hospital two weeks ago after his former club, Bullets FC, managed to raise MK2.2 million.

According to the team’s executive committee member, Dan Mbebuwa, who is also the club’s head marketing manager; the money was used for the player and his guardian’s travel fee as well as medical bill.

Mbebuwa disclosed that the bill had a shortfall of about K500, 000, saying Tay Grin’s donation had come at the right time as it was used to settle the balance for Masonda to be discharged. He was since discharged from the hospital on Saturday and arrived in Malawi on the same day.
