“If you support Malawi music make noise about our artists, if you’re an artist stand shoulder to shoulder with your brothers and sisters and lets break down these restrictions put on our music from being heard everywhere,” wrote the “Awake” singer.

Theo Thomson, an artist who owns Matalala Records, added “It starts at home, promote with us for us.”

The call comes in the midst of an outcry from musicians and industry players that local artists lack the much needed support from the Government of Malawi, the corporate world and the public at large.

Malawian artists are struggling to make a breakthrough on the market people in the country do not buy music their music but rather pirate. It has also been noted that local artists do not enjoy patronage from local fans during shows as opposed to visiting artists.
