Thugs attack Kasambara’s Mzuzu home, one apprehended

Armed thugs on Thursday midnight attempted to invade the residence of former Justice Minister, Ralph Kasambara, in the northern city of Mzuzu amidst strong allegations of a State organised assassination plot.

A driver of the car used for their intended criminal operation was apprehended by Kasambara’s security detail and handed over to Police. His accomplices escaped.

Police said they were to launch an investigation.

Kasambara confirmed that attack.

After the arrest of Kasambara in connection to the shooting of former Malawi budget director Paul Mphwiyo and its subsequent protracted battle for him to be freed on bail, Nyasa Times reported that some senior officials of Peoples Party were planning to assassinate him as soon as he is out for it is believed that he knows a lot of the infamous cash-gate scandal.

Kasambara denied the charged levelled against him of attempting to murder Mphwiyo and mentioned President Banda, Minister of Information Brown Mpinganjira, a state house official, Ireen Chikuni, Prophet Ellias and Hophmally Makande, a senior people’s party official as his witnesses in the case.

Nyasa Times understands government officials agreed that only way to silence Kasambara was by “elimination”.

Government is being asked to offer Kasambara tight security if it not involved with the attack.
