Gilita is one of the 50 TNM customers that won a total of K100 million in the Ufulu@50 promotion that TNM conducted in 2014 to celebrate with Malawians as the country commemorated 50 years of Independence.

Each of the winners was required to choose a social responsibility project of choice worth K2 million, translating to K100 million.

Galita chose to build a bridge on Chikamveka River to link Chinamwali Township and Airwing area in the old Malawi capital.

“Before this bridge was constructed children were failing to go to school especially during the rainy season because the old bridge was in bad shape,” she said.

She thanked TNM for this initiative which has seen a lot of people benefiting from the community project component of Ufulu @ 50 Promotion.

“On behalf of people from this community, let me commend TNM for this initiative which has not only benefit individuals but even the communities,” she said.

TNM Head of Southern Region Francis Mwamadi said the handover of the bridge demonstrates company’s commitment in fulfilling its promises to customers in Zomba and rest of the region.

“This is a life-changing promotion as prizes are going to worthy causes that will go a long way at community level. The current prize presentation phase demonstrates TNM’s commitment towards Corporate Social Responsibility and meeting its obligations under Ufulu@50 promotion,” he said.

In her remarks Group Village Headwoman Makungula  from Traditional Authority  Kumtumane expressed gratitude saying  the building of the  new bridge will go a long way in reducing  drowning accidents and people being washed away especially among school going children in the area.

“We have been experiencing drowning of children and just few weeks ago while his new bridge was being constructed one child was swept away, so this donation is timely to my area as it will ease t” said Makungula.

Zomba deputy mayor who is also a councillor for the area, David Maunde also described  the project as timely to the people of his area and appealed to the community to take care of the facility .

“This is timely donation  considering the poor road network due to  lack of proper road network, so let me appeal to  you all to avoid vandalism of this bridge,” said Maunde.
