TNM in K19m supporters promotion: Super League of Malawi condemns inflamatory statements

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has warned football club officials against producing controversial statements that are violent in nature.

Sulom member, Gift Mkandawire sounded the warning on Friday in Blantyre when Telkom Networks Malawi (TNM) mobile network was launching its K19.3 million Sapota Mapeto Promotion meant to engage the fans as they support their teams and help to generate additional revenue for their clubs in the process.

Mkandawire said uttering controversial statements which are violent in nature is not allowed in football as these may cause violence in football.

He observed that it is pity that some club officials produce controversial statements which sounds provocative in one way or the other.

“While football clubs are failing to get sponsors it is not good to cause violence in a game of football as these may scare away sponsors because they do not want their names to be associated with violence.

“Let me sound a warning here that producing words that are violent in nature is prohibited and once found and proved that the words are controversial likely to cause violence, laws will be applied,” said Mkandawire adding that TNM has become a real partner in football after sponsoring it for long now.

Mkandawire therefore urged football clubs supporters and officials to support the promotion taken by TNM to ensure that their clubs go commercial.

“It is the role of the supporters and official of the clubs to give something to their clubs and not expecting to get something from the clubs,” added Mkandawire.

He therefore urged the clubs to use the promotion wisely as it is one of the platforms for supporting their teams.

Through Sapota Mapeto Promotion club supporters will be sending messages to the code given and each SMS cost K30 of which K21 will be for the club.

The competition will run for six months starting 21st June, 2013 and supporters after sending SMS will also have access to win prizes such as flat screens, t-shirt and phones.
