Early this year, the premier mobile and ICT service provider unveiled a K3 million sponsorship package for BSC to enable lady golfers enjoy their game as they are mostly starved of regular sponsorship.

BSC lady golf captain Connie Muguvu-Karuku said this tournament will increase awareness and confidence about the progress and the professional touch of ladies’ golf in Malawi.

“This is the second tournament from the tri-tourney for ladies sponsored by TNM and men are invited to play as usual,” Karuku said. “We expect more than 50 golfers to play in this tournament and we expect this tournament to increase awareness and confidence about ladies golf.

“Malawi can have absolute ladies’ tournaments, it is possible,” she said.

Karuku thanked TNM for the sponsorship, saying it has contributed to the growth of ladies golf section.

“The BSC ladies’ section has grown by nine members since this sponsorship was unveiled. Ladies now have faith in the their competitions and the section continues to attract new members. Junior girls are increasing in numbers as well,” she said.

The captain said the tournament has received so much interest from golfers from both BSC and Country Club, Limbe.

TNM’s Public Relations & Sponsorship Manager, Limbani Nsapato said TNM is happy to have contributed towards the development of ladies golf.

“TNM as a Malawian company is always committed to support sporting disciplines in the country and is very happy that the sponsorship is living up to its objectives of growing ladies golf in Malawi,” Nsapato said.

The ladies golf section decided to include men in oder to spice up the quarterly event.

They will compete for trophies for the winner, the runners-up, third place as well as awards in the longest drive and nearest to the pin.

There will also be trophies for the winner and runner-up in the junior girls category.

TNM has always supported ladies tournaments at BSC as well as the national team in international tournaments.

The mobile service provider also bankrolled the ladies East and Central Africa Regional Challenge which Malawi hosted at Lilongwe Golf Club last year, the first time-ever for Malawi to host a ladies international golf tournament.

TNM’s Chief Commercial Officer Dan Makata said TNM was very passionate towards sports and was happy to contribute towards the development of ladies golf in the country where the sport is dominated by men.

“TNM as a Malawian company is always committed to supporting the development of sporting disciplines in the country,” he said. “We believe with such sponsorship we will contribute significantly to the development of sports among women and, of course, keeping them in shape.”
