Truck carrying fertilizers blast in Mzuzu: K22 mil vanish in flames

A truck belongs to Tiyenkhu Transport registration number NB 304 which was carrying 680 bags of fertilizers from Lilongwe to Mzimba north on Tuesday  burnt to ashes, police have confirmed.

The circumstances of the blast, at Lusangazi around midday, remain unclear.

Mzuzu Police Deputy Spokesperson Cecilia Mfune confirmed  the development.

Mfune identified  the driver of the truck as Bridgestone Khonyolo of 44 years old from Chihaha Khonyolo village in the area of Traditional Authority Mtwalo in Mzimba.

“The trailer was bending which resulted to flames of fire after reaching Lusangazi,” said Mfune.

The Mzuzu deputy police spokesperson said the driver alerted the police who managed to extinguish  the fire and rescued 373 bags of fertilizers only.

“The trailer worth K12 million and 307 bags of fertilizers worth K9.4 million burnt into ashes, which is K22.4 million all together,” she disclosed.

Meanwhile, Mfune said the police are continuing with their investigation on the matter.

“The trailer was bending which resulted to flames of fire after reaching Lusangazi,” ??????????? May be I’m too dull to understand this statement. I suppose the word bending is misplaced, the proper word should have been turning. But still, how could the turning of a trailer cause flames?

It should be binding not bending or turning. Sad for such a loss.
