According to Kamuzu International Airport Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Sgt. Sapulain Chitonde, the deceased are the driver of a freight liner truck Reg. No. ZA 1203, belonging to Almeida Company and a female passenger.

Chitonde indentify the deceased as Tiyamike Chisemphere, 34, from Kanyangala village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Dzowole in Dowa and Angella Njiragoma, 33, whose other details are not yet known.

“Due to the impact, a female passenger who has been identified by the Lumbadzi Police only as Njiragoma and believed to be a business lady from Mponela Trading Centre died on the spot while the driver was pronounced dead upon arrival at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Lilongwe,” he explained.

Chitonde said postmortem conducted by doctors at KCH revealed that death was due to polytrauma and multiple internal fractures which included pelvic fractures, pneumothorax/rib fractures, chest fractures and multiple head injuries.

The seriously injured one is a driver of tipper Reg. No. RU 4876 and has been admitted to KCH.

Chitonde said the freight liner truck was carrying ceiling boards from Chikangawa to Lilongwe while the tipper was carrying quarry stones from Terrastone Company to Kasungu.

Upon reaching the trading centre the truck lost control due to over speeding and it collided head-on with the tipper which belongs to Paramount Holdings Construction Company in Kanengo, Lilongwe.

Meanwhile, Lumbadzi Police is warning drivers to observe speed limits to avoid fatal accidents and loss of lives.

Police is also appealing to the general public to help identify Angella Njiragoma’s full particulars at KCH for her body to be claimed.
