Two Malawi Police officers arrested for stealing 13 crates of Carlsberg beer

Malawi Police in Blantyre have arrested two law enforcers in connection to theft of 13 crates of Carlsberg beer from Carlsberg Malawi Limited were they were on duty.

The officers, identified as Clement Mkwanda and Reuben Mwale, are believed to have connived with the security guard—Petelo Venesio—to steal the 13 crates.

The Police, however, have managed to recover the 13 crates at Ndirande market, according to Blantyre Police spokesperson Elizabeth Divala.

The officers in question and the security guard are being kept at Ndirande Police station.

The development comes barely few days after Inspector General of the Malawi Police Lexten Kachama admitted the rise incidents of police misconducts.

This, according to him, has eroded the general public’s trust.

The security agency has since launched a supplementary booklet of Code of Ethics, which will act as a guide in their operations.

The seven-point booklet, produced under the Malawi Policing Improvement with support from United Kingdom (UK), aims to reduce misconduct of law enforcers and raise awareness to all Malawians about acceptable behavior of the police officers.

“Every police officer will have to carry in their pockets a copy as part of their uniform. We want to bring a change among us and this will serve as a reminder to what the public expects from us,” said Kachama.

Giving the police officers the booklet will do very little to address the issue, the only wat to do away with this issue is to raise the officers salaries period!!! Do you think the officers don’t know their code of conduct? They know what is right and wrong because they were trained already, but the issue is about their pay
