Police in Malawi’s northern region district of Mzimba have arrested a 35 year old man for allegedly defiling his 14 year old biological daughter at Kamwazeka village in the area of Inkosi Mzikubola.
Mzimba police spokesman sergeant Peter Botha identified the suspect as Maxwell Shonga who is being kept in custody at the station awaiting court proceedings
“The suspect took advantage of the absence of the mother who was not at home that’s when he dragged the girl and defiled her during the night”,said sergeant Botha
Sergeant Botha said the girl whose name has been withheld did not reveal her ordeal until two weeks later when she told her mother everything.
The mother reported the matter to police who picked Shonga and charged him with the offence of defilement
In a related development the police in the same district have in custody Chandiwira Mumba aged 29 who is alleged to have defiled a 4 year old girl in the area of Inkosi Mzukuzuku last Sunday.
” The man found the girl playing with her friends he called her into the near bush where he defiled her but unfortunately for him a passerby who heard crying and rushed to check found the man on top”,said Sergeant Botha
Sergeant Botha said the mother of the child had gone to fetch water from a borehole when the incident happened
Mumba who comes from Chimkusa village in the area of Inkosi Mmbelwa was then apprehended and handed over to police who charged him with the offence of defilement.
Both suspects will appear before the court of law soon to answer charges of defilement contrary to the country’s penal code.
