U.S. rapper Da’ T.R.U.T.H. to meet Malawian teens on alcohol abuse

Celebrated United States gospel hip-hop artist Da’ T.R.U.T.H., who is scheduled to perform in Malawi this weekend will be meeting Malawian teenagers and sensitize them on the dangers of alcohol abuse.

The rapper, born Emanuel Lee Lambert Jr., is on an African tour and is expected to perform in Malawi’s major cities of Lilongwe and Blantyre.

He arrives in the country this Friday and his first concert will be in the capital city at ICA Marquee on Saturday and then proceed to Blantyre the next day for his second show at College of Medicine Sports Complex.

Initially, the rapper was supposed to have only one show in Blantyre but “due to demand from Lilongwe”, according to the organisers of his Malawian tour, the rapper will also be performing in the capital city.

And speaking to Nyasa Times, Lusayo Mhango of I.D Projects, said after the shows, the artist will on Monday and Tuesday visit some secondary schools in Blantyre before leaving the country on Wednesday.

“The concert is also aiming at sensitizing the general public, especially teenagers against the dangers of alcohol abuse amongst teens. The artist will meet various teenagers to encourage them to shy away from alcohol abuse,” disclosed Mhango.

Da’ T.R.U.T.H.’s sensitization tour will be coming at a time when the government of Malawi and several stakeholders are fighting against alcohol abuse among Malawian youths. One of the measures that government undertook was the banning of sachet liquor.

“Even though the government banned the sachets, consumption of these alcoholic sachets remains high among the under 18 year olds. We want to simply play our part in the fight against the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages among the youth,” Mhango added.

A 2007 to 2010 Stellar Award winner for Rap/hi-hop Gospel CD of the Year and Grammy award nominee, Da’ T.R.U.T.H. has performed before millions as a rapper and urban missionary across the world since the age of 16.

He has toured with Kirk Franklyn as well as Mary Mary and on January 29, the rapper released his 6th album titled Love, Hope, War.

In the ongoing African Tour, the gospel lyricist was scheduled to perform in Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Zambia, South Africa and Malawi.

During his shows in Lilongwe and Blantyre, Da’ T.R.U.T.H. will share the stage with Malawian gospel rappers and singers among them Lawi, David Kalilani, Liwu, Sam Mkandawire, KBG and Mada Ngoleka.

Meanwhile, advance tickets are available at K1,800 and are being sold at Steers and Impact Looks salon in Blantyre and at Papaya Restaurants at Game complex in Lilongwe. Patrons will be paying K2500 at the door.
