UDF clarifies on accident, says Atupele convoy not involved

Opposition United Denocratic Front (UDF) has said its president Atupele Muluzi’s motorcade was not involved in an accident in Mangochi as reported by some online media and  some posts on social media.

UDF spokesman Ken Ndanga said in a statement on Friday that Atupele’s convoy was not involved in an accident .

“The truth of the matter is that the vehicles that were involved in the said accident belonged to some UDF supporters who wanted to attend the public meetings,” said Ndanga.

“They left Mangochi boma after the convoy was miles away on its way to Makanjira. Those on the convoy only heard about the accident after the rallies and informed the UDF leader who visited the homes of the people involved the same evening,” he explained.

According to Ndanga all of them were treated as outpatients.

“Any information to the contrary should be treated with the contempt it deserves,” he said.
