UDF north, YYC bad blood over as furniture is recovered

The United Democratic Front (UDF) Northern Region chapter said on Monday the grudges it had against the Yellow Youth for Change (YYC) are now over since the office furniture is recovered.

All was not well last Friday  between the region’s UDF executive committee members and YYC  as the two camps nearly fought  after the Mzuzu High court sheriffs  confiscated  furniture at noon valued over K500, 000 on charges of defaulting a court order.

In September this year, YYC under the leadership of Bright Msosa and treasure Pachalo Mponera organized a party at Mzuzu University to commemorate the launch of the 50:50: Jubilee Movement an underground wing formed to campaign for the UDF torch bearer Atupere Muluzi to win the 2014 presidential race.

But while enjoying their meals, beers, snacks among others, a certain Mzuzu business man Morton Gondwe is reported to have been selling his beers at the University campus. But unknown men came and took away the beers without honouring the bills.

Sensing danger that he was not going to recover his money, as YYC refused that the suspects were its members, Gondwe  sued UDF  for  failing to honour  bills amounting to K69 000.

In an interview, Msosa said they warned Gondwe against selling his beers close to their function to avoid a confusion but the complainant paid a deaf ear.

The court, however, summoned UDF  to have its side story on the accusation but UDF  never cooperated, claiming the summons were served to a wrong party. Magistrate Cuthbert Phiri  acting on a filed motion from  lawyer Jiverson Kaziphatike to act on the default , ruled that UDF  must pay with extra fines for being disrespectful to the court.

But UDF Northern Region Governor Kawenje Chirwa, refused to receive the order saying it was addressed to a wrong office as YYC was a different entity outside the UDF .

The court marshals in company of a man in Peoples party golf shirt, armed police crushed with UDF  faithful   and seized filing cabinets, executive desks, armed and swerved chairs and other items.

But after pointing accusation fingers at each other, between YYC and UDF over the seized property, Msosa and Mponera while complaining the governor and his followers hated them pledged to bring back the items by Monday, a thing they lived up to.

Regional organizing secretary John Mdopora Kaunda in an interview said he was happy that CCY brought back the furniture and declared that bad blood between them was cleansed.
