Uladi, Matumula at it again: Attack Atupele, say UDF won’t rule Malawi again

Outspoken ruling People’s Party (PP) official Uladi Mussa on Saturday went to town again attacking   United Democratic Front (UDF) 2014 presidential hopeful Atupele Muluzi for his youthful age.

Uladi, who used Islamic religion for his political campaign said Malawi politics should not be confused with religion. He said UDF should not cheat people that the party is for Moslems.

Speaking during the foundation stone laying for a new maternal wing at Lungwena Health Centre in Mangochi District, Uladi who is also Home Affairs Minister blasted the UDF for touting it was more Muslim and therefore synonymous with the UDF and the Islamic faith, which is dominant in the district.

“We have been under the Malawi Congress Party of Dr. Banda, the United Democratic Front of Bakili Muluzi, and the Democratic Progressive Party of late Bingu wa Mutharika and now the PP of Mrs. Joyce Banda and we are still free to worship. This shows no party can claim it belongs to a particular faith. We Muslims are free to worship and we are also in majority in the PP. That does not make the PP an Islamic party and a similar situation cannot make the UDF Islamic,” he schooled.

Change Golo, as he is popularly known, Uladi  further said some people were not fit to be leaders, and that others are fit to go back to Standard 8 for an education, in apparent reference to UDF’s 2014 presidential candidate, Atupele Muluzi .

“Such people should go back and start Standard 8. They are not fit to rule, and are peddling agenda for change which they cannot understand.

“Agenda for change already took place when God called Mutharika and brought Joyce Banda to rule Malawi,” he told the large gathering.

The event, which was graced by President Joyce Banda, was to lay a stone following a donation from EcoBank to the tune of MK36 million meant to construct a maternal wing at the centre.

Present at the ceremony were Vice President Khumbo Kachali, health minister Catherine Gotani Hara, and EcoBank executive director Charles Asiyedu, MP for the area Hon. Shabaan Makumbe, among many other dignitaries.

Uladi, who said he is a Sheikh alongside top party officials including ministers Sidik Mia and Ibrahim Matola, and party vice president Cassim Chilumpha, has been a key member in the UDF before he formed his own Maravi People’s Party and later joined the DPP to earn himself the nickname Change Goal, and is now a key member in the PP and the party’s hate-speech megaphone at presidential rallies.

Also taking to the podium with foul-mouthing was Yusuf Billiat Matumula who declared UDF will never come back to power and that people in the area should rally behind President Banda.

Matumula claimed UDF failed to develop the country when it ruled from 1994 to 2005.

Ironically, Matumula monopolised businesses during UDF regime the same way Leston Mulli did during Bingu wa Mutharika era.

A businessman-cum-politician, Matumula and Chilumpha who are both answering treason charges for an alleged plot to assassinate late president Bingu wa Mutharika. The case has been “warehoused” by the State since the change of governments.

Minister Henry Phoya is on record saying Malawi’s intelligence apparatus has some “chilling evidence” surrounding the plans, saying Chilumpha instructed Matumula to travel to a foreign country to engage a professional assassin.
