Umodzi Party formed, led by Prof. John Chisi

A new political party, the Umodzi Party (UP), has been formed.

Announcing the formation  at a news conference in Blantyre, UP interim president Professor John Chisi.

Chisi, a lecturer at the College of Medicine in Blantyre and one of the founders of charity organisation Umodzi Foundation said the new political party sought to bring ideology-based politics to Malawi.

He said UP would want to fight poverty by ensuring proper mechanismare put in place for job creation.

“Poverty and suffering are coming in because wealth and education are concentrated around a few individuals who aren’t willing to distribute the same to others,” said the academician who also sounded biblical.

The diagnostician Malawi has enough resources to enable everyone have a decent life, but poverty is creeping in because those responsible for the distribution of resources have chosen to be stingy and selfish.

He decried the levels of poverty and destitution in the country, describing the development as sad and against the will of God.

But Chisi was not clear of the structure of the party and his plans for 2014 elections.
