The new UNDP Resident Representative to Malawi Ms Mia Seppo has assured President Dr Joyce Banda that her organisation will support the country’s Tripartite Elections in 2014.

Seppo said she was aware of the pressure that the tripartite elections will present to the national budget.

“There will be a UN managed trust which will house all the funds donors will pledge for the elections,” Seppo informed.

She disclosed that the Department for International Development (DFID), Norway and Ireland were among those that had already pledged to support the Tripartite Elections.

Seppo was speaking when she paid a courtesy call on President Banda at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe on Monday

In her statement, the Malawi leader asked for support for the elections and assured the new UNDP chief in Malawi that Government will table all laws in Parliament that need to be harmonised for the elections.

The President also asked for support for the 50:50 campaign which aims at seeing more women go to Parliament.

The Malawi leader also accepted to continue serving on the UNAIDS/Lancet Commission.
