According to Zomba Police public relations officer Sergeant Emmanuel Kachingwe, identity of all the dead people is not yet known.

He said the accident happened when the driver of the vehicle, registration number NB 3310, lost control and overturned several times killing three passengers on board, including the driver.

“The accident occurred at a place known as 9 miles as we go to Jali in Zomba. The dead people are at Zomba Central Hospital mortuary and we are asking members of the general public who know that some people are missing to come and identify with us at the hospital,” said Kachingwe.

The police spokesperson added that the vehicle has been severely damaged and insurance certificate on the windscreen shows the owner is I. Rashid.

Meanwhile, Nyasa Times has identified one of the deceased as Stella who stays at New Road in Zomba City whereas the driver and a six-year-old child were reported to have travelled from Salima and were going to Phalombe

The driver’s identity, although am not 100% sure, must be John Chigumula of Tchete village T/A Mwambo, Zomba. MAY THE SOULS OF THE DEPARTED REST IN PEACE.Koma msewu wathu wa Zomba-Jali,wafika pokaikitsa.Almost every week kukuchitika ngozi.Previously,it was at Lomoni,Mamphanda @ talking about accidents involving cyclists, motor cyclists & pedestrians, they are countless.Should the blame be shouldered by the police?,road users?,or there is satanic intervention? May the good lord have mercy on the innocents who are losing lives eg the just demised six-yr old.
