Long time and close friend Moses Dossi confirmed the sickness with Times Radio.

Efforts to get more details on the illness from Chakuamba proved futile as we went online as his mobile phone was out of reach.

But according to reports, Chakuamba is struggling with abdominal complications.

His admission comes after he was again hospitalised in India and was expected to go for check up soon.

President Peter Mutharika directed that Chakuamba be flown abroad to receive proper treatment following a long illness.

Chakuamba retired from his political retirement early this year and vowed to die while serving Mutharika and his rulling Democratic
Progressive Party (DPP).

He made the announcement at a developmental rally Mutharika held in Nchalo Chikwawa on 8th April, 2016.

During the rally, Chakuamba 81 said the rally was a good platform to thank the president for the kind gesture he showed in serving his life by sending him to a South Africa hospital for medication the time he seriously got ill.

He therefore assured Mutharika and his DPP that he will do everything possible that they sweep all parliamentary seats in the lower Shire
districts of Nsanje and Chikwawa.

Chakuamba is among few respected politicians who struggled to earn Malawians freedom and served in different government portfolios since
1960’s.

He served as a cabinet minister in various portifolios from 1960 before his arrest in 1980 after being charged with treason by the then one party rule of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) under late Malawi first President Ngwazi Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda.

He was released in 1993 and after Malawi attained multiparty democracy in 1994, he served as leader of opposition in parliament.

Chakuamba  also served as a minister in the cabinet of late DPP founder Bingu wa Mutharika in 2004.

In recent years, Chakuamba admitted to have been living a destitute life due to financial problems by among others receiving constant
threats of eviction from Malawi Housing Cooperation House (MHC) in a house he was living in Chimwankhunda.

He was later bailed out by former president Bakili Muluzi.

At the pick of his political career, Chakwamba was a proud owner of farms, houses in Chigumula, Mount pleasant among other worth

What a selfish old man. The spirit of Bonjesi will haunt him to his grave and I pray he rots in hell.

Just because APM ordered government to send you to foreign clinics then you want Lower Shire people to vote DPP? What a shallow minded old man! Will APM order government to send the people abroad when they and their children fall sick? Instead of lobbying government to build better and well equipped clinics here at home you’re busy singing praises for selfish gains?! Just due old man you have failed Malawi once again!

Chakuamba might be a veteran, but unqualified one.First and formost,he is a leading political opportunist Malawi has ever had.He has no clear vision for our country, wherever he sees financial benefits, nobody would stop him plunge himself into the fray. However,I wish him quick recovery.
