Vice Chancellor creates hell for registrar Moyo at Malawi Adventist  University

Administration crisis at Malawi Adventist University (MAU), reportedly being fired-up by the university’s vice chancellor Mozecie Kadyakapita, could spell doom for the institution as members of staff have turned against him based on his attitude towards university registrar Stevie Moyo.

Moyo: Staff behind him
Vice Chancellor of Malawi Adventist University Dr. Mozicie Kadyakapita: Does not want Moyo

MAU is situated in Malawi central region district of Ntcheu. It offers four year degree programs of the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton.

Moyo is currently serving a suspension after controversial circumstances surrounding the university’s congregation last October where 402 students graduated in different programmes including Bachelor of Business Administration-Accounting, Management and Marketing; Bachelor of Education; Bachelor of Arts Theology; Bachelor of Science-Agriculture; Bachelor of Science-Agri-business; Bachelor of Science-Public Health; Bachelor of Science-Biomedical Laboratory; Certificate and Diploma in Clinical Medicine; Diploma in Biomedical Sciences; and Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery.

But reports indicate that Moyo’s suspension is more than the graduation issue.

According to information made available to Nyasa Times, MAU can only go ahead with holding a graduation ceremony upon liaison with mother college – the University of Eastern Africa Baraton.

“As registrar Moyo approved a prospective list of the names that were supposed to graduate based on traditional education standards that enables one to do so,” a source that opted  to remain anonymous told Nyasa Times.

Added the source: “But as is natural with the institution, the list was sent to the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton where for reasons not very substantial some names were chopped off the list.”

Well-placed sources that talked to Nyasa Times on Friday said Kadyakapita, whose term of contract has expired, has been feeding the members of the council with bad talk against Moyo whom he eyes as a threat to his position during the next interviews.

“In fact,” the source added, “he is said to have convinced the entire council that Moyo had done what he did deliberately.”

Nyasa Times understands that the position of vice chancellor at the institution is subject to renewal.

Kadyakapita could not be reached for comment as we went online. But our sources affirmed he is contented to renew his contract.

He is also said to have recommended his “boy” the assistant registrar Maclead Banda, whom he has always preferred to take over him, as acting university registrar.

Banda, a former lecturer at the institution, was kicked out of the lecture-room at the institution by his students for poor delivery.

He was then moved to his present position with Kadyakapita’s help.

Kadyakapita treats his junior staff ngati they are his children. The time he was transferred to Malamulo secondary school as a Principal he found five teachers who were graduates of university of Malawi. He made sure to give those young teachers hell and all resigned within one year. Munthu uyu ndiwoyipa kwapasi. If MAlawi union of SDA don’t act then they are creating DOOM for the University. This man is overdue for retirement. Akapume koma alibe Nyumba.

This article sounds like gossip. It is so baseless and appears to be fed by power hungry people. Each person is evaluated at the end of the year. If it is found that he has not performed according to the standards he or she is spewed out. How good is this article to the public. Gossip! Sometimes I question Nyasa Times sense of reason in as far as newsworthy articles are concerned. Just a chat with a discontented MAU staff member or Moyo’s sympathizer then you go ahead and write an article. Malawi wake up!
