Vuwa lashes at opposition on recent Malawi disasters

Presidential advisor on National Unity and Parliamentary affairs, Symon Vuwa Kaunda has taken a swipe at opposition saying they have done nothing to help Malawians affected by disasters that occurred in the country.

He made the sentiment in Mzimba on Friday during a handover ceremony of a donation of 835 Timbers worthy MK5 million by Raiply to two Community Day Secondary Schools and one Primary school affected by heavy wind.

The Presidential advisor said in early this year, some parts of Mzuzu, Karonga, Mzimba and others were hit by floods and hailstorms that left crops and buildings in bad condition but opposition parties did nothing to help the victims.

Kaunda said following the tragedy, the President made an appeal to companies and other well-wishers to help the areas affected with the disaster.

He said “I would like to thank Raiply Malawi for responding to the president appeal and make a donation of 835 Timbers worthy MK5million to help in the renovation of the three schools which were affected by the heavy storms.

“Government is committed to improve education standards through good infrastructures and the gestures by Raiply is one way of complementing such initiatives.”

Kaunda said the opposition have done nothing to help during the disasters which shows that there is nothing beneficial they can offer for Malawians

He further asked other companies plying their businesses in Malawi to take up the gesture by Raiply and do the same to areas which were affected by disasters.

In his remarks, Chief Executive Officer for Raiply, Thomas Oomen said as a company they felt duty bound to assist the schools with Timbers after the tragedy of disasters that occurred.

He said as a company they have a corporate social responsibility strategy of helping the community they are working with.

Head Teacher for Mnjiri Community Day Secondary School, Mathews Chipofya thanked Raiply saying the donation is a mile towards completion of an office block which has stalled for close to five years.

He said the teachers are currently using a classroom as an office which has compromised the already in adequate classes at the school which has over 900 learners.

The schools which has benefited from the donation include Mnjiri Community Day Secondary School, Sazu and Kamilaza Primary school.

With the calibre of opposition leadership we have now all that is possible. If the opposition was focused and strategically positioned, this government is easy-peasy stuff to boot-out because it is also disjointed but ahead in its crookedness as compared to these other parties put together.

For sure, you can say something better than this, Raiply was doing this as a social corporate responsibility and not as DPP, so Mr. Vuwa next time you preside over such a function, do your homework before saying anything.
