‘Wakonzeka’ – another music video to watch from Malawi by Luv-C featuring NesNes

The “Wakonzeka” music video by Luv-C is one of the best music videos in the land right now. Shot and directed by Essim of Animal Lab, you would expect that quality would be guaranteed.

“Wakonzeka” is a story of love. Luv C and Nesnes collaborate on a mellow laidback hip-hop song to tell a story of young man professing his undying love for his girlfriend. The young man is asking the love of his life if she is ready to take their relationship to the next level of commitment.

The video was shot with utmost skill. The storyline in the music video unfolds around the city of Lilongwe but one would think it was shot anywhere but in the city famed for its dusty roads. Such was the quality in the choice of location and camera shots for the music video.

As a hip-hop song, the music video portrays urban elements of the genre’s culture. All the characters that act out in the video’s storyline are young and so their dressing and how they carry themselves ties in with the way of the youth. The filler-scenes have Luv C, Nesnes and a few other girls dancing; all tying in with the song’s genre.

What really stands out from the “Wakonzeka” video is the video director’s bold usage of an all-white room as a shooting background. In almost all the videos that have come out of Malawi, this is the only video that has an entire background (walls and floor) in white; and it pulled off with no flaws.

Although the song’s storyline is not an entirely original concept, and some scenes are not fully backed by corresponding scenes, the overall execution of the scenes make “Wakonzeka” a marvel to watch.

Luv C is a Lilongwe-based rapper who came to the limelight when he w0n a “Social Influence” award on the Project April initiative in 2013.

“Wakonzeka” is Luv C’s first music video but his third music offering having recorded two other songs back in 2013. The country can only wait to see what other quality videos he has up his sleeve.
