General Secretary Mike Butao however said the engaged Kananji after Bullets terminated his contract after failing to agree on his demand for a the review of his remuneration package.

“I can now confirm that we have held talks with Kananji,” Butao said.

“He is one of the coaches we are considering to engage. But just as a matter of clarification, we started talking to him after it was announced that our friends Bullets FC have severed ties with him. We don’t want to paint a picture that we engaged him while his contract with Bullets was still running,” Butao said.

He also disclosed that once a coach is identified caretaker coach Kannock Munde would be redeployed to his former role of team manager.

In a related development,  Kananji said he smelt a rat over Bullets decision three months ago after re-engaging Burundian coach Nsanzarwimo Ramadhan.

He said the CAF coaching Licence issue was just used as a scapegoat to get rid of him.

“I think it was already planned and that can be confirmed by events that have been unfolding in the past three months. They were just looking for an opportunity to get me out of the way and luckily for them, they had to use CAF tournament requirement,” Kananji said.

“Even after my demotion I took it calmly and told them that I was prepared to stay on but when I asked for a review of my perks they saw it as another chance to remove me. But such as life and I wish them all the best in their future endevours.”

However the former Blantyre United coach said he had no grudges against Bullets having had a good working relationship with the executive, supporters committees and players.

Kananji broke Bullets Super League title jinx in nine years after winning in the 2014 season and capped it with a Carlsberg Cup double.
