Wanderers elections:  Majority to go unopposed

 

Mighty Wanderers Football Club executive committee will go to the polls on Sunday at their club house on Sunday with candidates for key positions to go unopposed.

Incumbent chairman George Chamangwana, first Vice-Chairman Alex, second Vice-Chairman Alan Chuma, Treasurer Gladstone Kuyeri, Vice-General Secretary Chris Kananji will go unopposed.

However, the incumbent Vice-General Secretary Hubert Mfune will battle it out with former General Secretary Mike Butao for the position of General Secretary held by lawyer David Kanyenda who is stepping down.

Patrick Tsonga, Flora Nkusa Nkhoma, Onani Chaponda a Wawanya will contest for executive member positions.

The in-coming executive committee members will hold a two-year term of office once they assume office.

Wanderers Secretary of the electoral college Henry Chibowa, who is a former General Secretary of the club appeal to all supporters to be disciplined for the elections to be held in a free and fair manner.

“We are appealing to all the supporters to maintain law and order just as it was the case last week during the supporters executive committee so that the elections should be free and fair,” Chibowa said.

With most candidates going for positions unopposed Mfune, the former, Football Association of Malawi Treasurer and Acting President, will face a daunting task to overcome Butao.
