Wanderers supporters ‘fire’ Kanyenda: Nomads boss sorry to Bullets

Mighty Wanderers FC supporters committee  claimed to have fired the club’s outspoken general secretary David Kanyenda, accusing him of putting the Lali Lubani Road side in disrepute through his uncensored media comments.

But the Wanderers’ spokesperson, who was only incorporated into the club’s executive committee has challenged the supporters that he can only be removed from his position at an annual general meeting (AGM).

Speaking in an interview monitored on Galaxy Radio, Wanderers’ supporters club advisor Anusa Wisiki said the decision to
fire Kanyenda has been endorsed by three quarters of the supporters’ committee.

“We had a meeting to discuss the behavior of our general secretary, whose media comments do not reflect the views of the club and its supporters and the majority of members felt it is time we part ways with our GS,” Wisiki was quoted as assaying on the radio.

Amongst other charges, Kanyenda is being accused of souring relations between Wanderers and rival camp Big Bullets after accusing Bullets of bewitching star midfielder Omega ‘Megadinho’ Mhone.

Kanyenda also crossed paths with Lilongwe based Wanderers’ supporters after declaring that Wanderers FC belongs to the southern region.

The Lilongwe based supporters committee resigned en-mass after being sidelined by the Wanderers’ GS, who had the backing of some Blantyre based fans including flamboyant Yona Malunga.

Responding to the supporters’ decision, Kanyenda, who is a lawyer by profession challenged that he can only be removed at an annual general meeting of the club.

The Nomads executive is yet to meet and discuss the supporters resolution but the club has made an apology to Bullets over Kanyenda’s remarks.

Meanwhile, the Nomads, through their chairperson George Chamangwana, have since apologised to  Bullets, admitting that Kanyenda sperson will be summoned for a disciplinary hearing.

Chamangwana said Kanyenda might have made the statement “out of excitement”  but Wanderers “ strongly condemn whatever he said”.

The Nomads boss also said football is supposed to be a source of entertainment and not a platform for creating hatred.
