I want to show Malawi why South Africa signed me – Gemini Major

Currently one of the hottest performers and record producers in South Africa, Malawian-born Gemini Major has promised fireworks at the UMP Awards show in Blantyre on Sunday to prove his record deal under CassperNyovest’s label wasn’t a fluke.

“The same heat I put into South Africa I’m bringing it into Malawi. I want people to see it,” Gemini Major told Nyasa Showbiz.

Born Benn Gilbert Kamoto, Gemini Major left Malawi in 2009 to pursue his dream as an artist and producer in South Africa where he was spotted by hip-hop megastar CassperNyovest and signed him under the Family Tree.

“If you don’t know why South Africa put me there come [to the UMP] and witness it wasn’t a fluke,” he added.

Gemini Major will be performing in his native landfor the first time seven years after he left as unknown artist and now one of the forces to be reckoned with not only in SA but on the continental music scene.

He has recorded with continental music heavyweights such as CassperNyovest, KhuliChana, 2Baba, Nasty C, Riky Rick, Aewon Wolf, DJ Waxxy and Buffalo Soldier.

After the release of Nasty C’s hit single “Juice Back”, Gemini has become the go to producer for some of South Africa’s leading hip-hop artists.

Gemini Major has produced for a number of artists in a variety of genres ranging from R&B, Hip-Hop, House, Dancehall, Pop and Gospel. His portfolio includes production used in TV Shows such as Gold Diggers Season 3, Forever Young and Mo Love.

Looking at his profile and how his music is doing well, not only at the continental level, but back home, fans at the UMP should brace a thrilling show with the Rudebouy Major live on stage unleashing his hit songs, includingBadmantingfeaturing Aewon Wolf, Bumpy Ride, RaggaRagga and the latest One Night Stand.

The UMP Festival has also attracted an A-list lineup of local performers, among them Tay Grin, Nepman, Sonye, Martse, Sangie, Theo Thomson, Blaze, DNA, Bucci, Fredokiss, Daredevilz, Home Grown African, Charisma, Malinga Mafia, Phyzix, Suffix, Malinga Mafia, Dezert Eagle and Purple C.

On Sunday, the UMP will also be awarding Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Producer of the Year, Music Video Director of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Hip-hop/Rap Act, Best Afro-Pop/R&B Act, Best Dancehall/Reggae Act, Best Gospel Artist and Best New Artist.
