Watchout for lip service politicians, says Gwengwe

Minister for Industry and Trade Sosten Gwengwe says it is high time Malawi embraced practical politicians who deliver what they promise.

Gwengwe, who is also Presidential running mate for the People’s Party (PP) was addressing a mass rally that gathered at Mazengera Primary School ground in Traditional Authority Mazengera, Lilongwe on Sunday where he had accompanied President Joyce Banda to a rally and distribution of cows under a cow a family project and maize to the hunger affected families.

He advised the people to be on the lookout against politicians who come around with sweet impractical talk making promises they cannot fulfill.

“When going to vote, go for those parties and candidates whose works you have seen and witnessed and not those who promise good things to happen when they have assumed office,” said Gwengwe who made reference to Banda as a practical politician.

Apparently he  was referring to President Banda’s proven works of charity and empathy for the old and impoverished through the Presidential Initiative on Hunger Reduction, Mudzi Transformation Trust and a cow a family project among others.

He further referred to President Banda as a replica of the first Malawian President Dr Kamuzu Banda whose main interest was for the rural masses to live in comfortable houses, drink clean water and have food in abundance.

Incidentally, on return after the mass rally President Banda stopped over at Mkanda Village the same traditional authority Mazengera where she identified Zelesi Mapira, an old lady living in a grass thatched house together with her daughter, some orphans and goats.

The President has since promised to build a new house for Mapira and provide clean water in the village, a commodity the old lady complained was highly scarce.
