Woman arrested for killing husband, dumping body in toilet to rot

Police in Ntchisi have arrested Margaret John, 32, on allegations that she killed her husband in April this year and concealed his death.

According to the deceased’s brother Kapala Ching’ombe, the body of Aaron Ching’ombe, 44, was found last Thursday, in a toilet where John allegedly dumped it.

He said police and a medical officer visited the scene and post-mortem results revealed death was caused due to head injury and internal bleeding.

John comes from Kapombe Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Vusojere in the district.

According to Ntchisi Police Public Relations Officer Gladson M’bumpha, the incident occurred on April 27 2014 at Katangala village in the area of Traditional Authority Vusojere in Ntchisi.

M’bumpha said that the suspect is alleged to have murdered his  husband using an axe which she hacked him in the head.

Police said that investigations revealed that the deceased and the suspect got married in 2011 and the two were staying in the deceased’s village and that on April 27 2014, the suspect went to the house of the deceased’s brother, Kapala Ching’ombe, 55, where she informed him that the deceased had gone to Kasungu to search for employment of which the deceased’s brother and relatives believed the story.

He said that during the early month of June 2014, the relatives of the deceased started smelling a very bad and strange smell from a toilet (pit latrine) but the suspect told them that she killed some snakes and threw them in the toilet and that in the mid month of June 2014, the suspect disappeared from the house which raised suspicion to the relatives.

M’bumpha said that on June 26 2014, according to investigations the relatives uncovered the toilet and saw the human bones and clothes of the deceased.

He said that he matter was reported to police where a scene of crime was visited along with a medical officer who conducted postmortem that revealed that death was due to head injury and internal bleeding.

“Upon interrogations, the suspect admitted that she hacked her husband In the head with an axe,” policespokesman said.

He said meanwhile, enquiries are still in progress to establish main reasons for the suspect’s action and that he suspect is expected to appear in court soon to answer murder charges.

The suspect hails from Kapombe village whilst the deceased comes from Katangala village, both from the area of Traditional Authority Vusojere in Ntchisi.
