World Bank to fund Mzuzu University ‘teaching hotel’

Mzuzu University (Mzuni) plans to have its own modern hotel which will be used for its hospitality students as a teaching and research hotel to be financed by the World Bank, according to Mzuni vice chancellor Dr. Robert Ridley.

Ridley said the plan to have the teaching hotel so that Mzuni o students in the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management, study not only theory from books but also apply concepts in the real world.

Mzuni vice chancellor said it is the college’s hope that the teaching hotel “will play a greater role in catapulting the country’s tourism sector to greater heights.”

By studying in a teaching hotel, students are expected learn and apply what they learn in real-life situations.

The Mzuni hotel will provide a fully integrated teaching and learning experience in a “real-world” environment, and also offer better opportunities for faculty members to conduct research in the areas of hospitality and tourism.

Malawi has other institution of hospitality industry learning at Institute of Tourism in Blantyre where there is also an abode.

Mzuni offers studies in tourism and hospitality management at degree level.
