Yamba CDSS, New Version are 2015 Airtel Rising Stars champions in Malawi

Yamba Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) and New Version Private School are this year’s champions of the 2015 Airtel Rising Stars edition after emerging national winners in boys and ladies categories in thrilling encounters at Kamuzu stadium on Sunday.

Yamba, a side from northern district of Chitipa beat Zatonse Private Secondary School of Chikwawa 8-7 on post match-penalties after a one-all draw in open play while New Version of Lilongwe whipped Blantyre based Namalimwe CDSS 4-1.

They pocketed K1 million and a trophy each.

A training match involving Malawi national football team and Airtel Rising Stars select also spiced up the national finals.

The Flames came from behind to claim 2-1 win over the select side which comprised players from first and second editions of the  Airtel Rising Stars.

Notable names in the Airtel Rising stars included Be Forward Wanderers forward Precious Msosa, FIZD Wizard midfielder Mike Mkwate and Levison Maganizo, Red Lions goalkeeper Wanipa Gondwe, Dedza Young Soccer midfielder Amadu Makawa and Moyale Barracks midfielder Brown Maganga.

Back to Airtel Rising Stars finals; Yamba were the first to register on the score sheet through their forward Stain Silavwe while Zatonse grabbed the much-needed equalizer in the dying minutes through Andrew Chilemba.

Zatonse and New Version received K750,000 each for coming second their in sections.

Zatonse’s forward Andrew Chilemba and goalkeeper Steven Tsogolani received top goal scorer award and best goalkeeper of the tournament, respectively.

While Yamba’s midfielder Lackson Tsangano was decorated with the best player of the tournament award.

In ladies category, New Version forward Temwa Chawinga won the top scorer award with five goals and she was also named player of the tournament and the award for the best goalkeeper of the tournament to her team mate Memory Gama.
