Zambia gives Malawi cash, tents and blankets to help flood survivors

As international assistance for flood victims continue trickling in since Malawi sounded the alarm, the Republic of Zambia has also donated cash, tents and blankets.

On Wednesday, Zambia officially handed over a donation of US$ 20,000; 300 tents; and 5000 blankets.

Principal Secretary for Disaster Management Paul Chiunguzeni thanked Zambia for the gesture, saying it was timely.

“You have shown true spirit of being a good neighbour.  The assistance of tents is timely because it will help us free the schools that are being used as camps so that learning doesn’t get affected for long,” he said.

In his remarks, Anderson  Banda of Zambia’s Disaster Management said acting President Guy Scott intrustructed them to make the donation.

He said Malawi shares a lot with Zambia and it was proper that they made such a donation.

Torrential rains have wreaked havoc across Malawi, which has reported at least 200 deaths and many more missing, with 200,000 displaced.

Zambia really cares about Malawi but I’m sure some minister is crying for that $20000 right now. Ba Zambia it should also be easy to remove that $20000 when a building is needed to be reconstructed

Bongololo, you only need an extraordinary thinking to act extraordinarily. It can never happen today. It is a process that can take more than five years. In fact, every African country has its own problems and Zambia is not exceptional.
