Zimbabwean arrested in Dedza for possessing cocaine
Police in central district of Dedza on Tuesday arrested a Zimbabwean woman, identified as Simiro Ndovi, for allegedly being found in possession cocaine.
Ndovi, suspected of hiding the illegal drug in Mango Juice bottles and sealed them in Mango juice labeled carton, was arrested at Dedza border post by detectives.
It is alleged that she wanted to smuggle the cocaine to South Africa via Malawi and Mozambique with her passport showing that she was in transit from Bangladesh in India.
“After checking the merchandise, our detectives noticed that it was not juice, but cocaine. So we arrested her for being found in possession of illegal drug,” said Dedza Police spokesperson Edward Kabango.
Despite indicating that the suspect will appear in court soon, Kabango said there is no specific sentence or fine attached to the offence but the “magistrate gives the verdict as it deems right”.
