Zokoma TV: Malawi’s first online TV starts January 2015
As Malawi’s entertainment industry continues to grow every day, the country will early 2015 witness the launch of the premier online entertainment television network, Zokoma TV.
The TV channel is expected to start streaming its programmes the first week of January 2015, according to the developer, Ronald Zeleza.
According to Zeleza, the channel was earmarked to start this year but was delayed because the website designers were yet to finalize some works and the company was still recruiting staff, including presenters.
“We’re now almost ready as much of the work has been done and currently we’re in the process of recruiting presenters. Come first week of January Zokoma TV will start showing,” disclosed Zeleza in an interview.
Zeleza, a renowned video producer in Malawi, popularly known as Ron Cz, said Zokoma TV aims to promote the growing Malawian urban industry and locally made content.
“Zokoma TV has a website where people will be able to stream and download Malawian videos. It will also have programmes which people can watch and get entertained.
“Apart from the streaming and downloading of videos, Zokoma TV website will also have written information in form of entertainment news, fashion, celebrity gossip and many more,” he explained.
Zokoma TV will have at least two presenters in various programs in the country’s three cities namely Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu.
According to Zeleza, each city will also have a camera man who will cover all entertaining events happening in the city.
“In terms of videos, artists will have to download a release form on the TV’s website, which they will have to sign upon reading the requirements to get their video on the network.
He further indicated that Zokoma TV is open to everyone who wants their content viewed online, adding that viewers will be able to watch the channel on any device with access to the internet, be it a phone, tablet, smart TV, personal computers and other devices.
Meanwhile, a prelaunch show for Zokoma TV has been organised and is slated for the afternoon of December 28 at the Basement Club in Blantyre where most of the city’s up-and-coming urban musicians are billed to perform.
Some of the acts on the lineup are Trap Squad, Excess & Ill City, Malinga Mafia (from Lilongwe), AyCee James, Joyfresh, Flo Dee, Front Line, Africa, Jillz, Renalvane, Zeze, Teddy, Genii Blakk and E-Word.

To be relevant and economically sustainable, include indigenous music artists in your repertoire. If u limit yourself to urban music, u wont get far. Most of the well moneyed people are not into urban music in this country, even overseas.
It’s not the 1st online Malawi TV Station. The trend setters were Zoom TV created by Chazz In ATL earlier in the decade. Follow the footprints and give credit where it’s due. Peace!
