Zomba Stadium construction on the cards – APM
Zomba city will soon have a stadium to replace the dilapidated Community Centre Ground, President Peter Mutharika has said.
Mutharika made the remarks after touring Zomba and some roads government is upgrading in the city and promised to undertake several development activities in the district.
Speaking when he addressed people gathered at Chakhaza, the President said government has planned to undertake several activities in the city including building of new stadium, shopping mall, new market at Mpunga and installing street rights among others.
“As one way of showing commitment towards development, my government has planned to construct new stadium at Zomba community Centre ground to develop sporting activities.
“In addition to that, we will also build a shopping mall as well as installing street lights in the city,” said Mutharika.
MP for Zomba Central, Patricia Kainga Nangozo applauded government for considering Zomba City on development projects such that people have something to point at in terms of development since it was elevated to a city status by late president Bingu Wa Mutharika in 2008.
She also asked government to extend the city as is the case with other cities.
