At least 17 Malosa secondary School students in eastern district of Zomba were on Saturday involved in a car accident.

The accident happened 500metres after Chingale turn off in Machinga. They were rushed to St Lukes Hospital at Malosa in the former capital where 13 students were treated as outpatients and one student was referred to Zomba Central Hospital after sustaining serious fractures on both legs.

The students were travelling to their respective homes for a one- week mid term holiday.

There were also other passengers in the vehicle and they too sustained fractures of various degrees.

Meanwhile, Bishop Brighton Vitta Malasa of the Anglican Church has sent a good will message to students of Malosa Secondary School involved in the accident.

His Lordship Malasa is Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Malosa Secondary School by virtue of being the Head of the Anglican Diocese of Upper Shire, under which Malosa is, and said that it is his prayer and that of the Church that all involved in the accident receive God’s mercies and be healed promptly so that the name of the Lord be praised.

Malasa observed that any accident, small as might be, has a bearing just in the particular ‘s life, but as well as  family, community, and as a Church, it is saddened that at a time the students, who are in process of shaping their future and that of the nation, were supposed to go and relax a bit while visiting their parents or relations they end up in an accident.

“An accident has a cost; it could be physical, mental, material or spiritual, hence the need to pray for our boys and girls of Malosa Secondary School involved in the road accident today near Chingale Turn Off,”. Malasa, who is also Chairperson of the Anglican Council in Malawi, said.—Additional reporting by Louis Phiri, Nyasa Times

By God’s grace, that bus would have killed a lot os students from St Charles Lwangwa who were going in the opposite direction on their way to ATEM competition at Domasi College. The other bus and that of Malosa were overtaking and the Malosa one hit the other, completely losing balance and swerving to the other, missing the front part of St Charles Lwangwa bus by a whisker but badly damaged its body, finally delving into the drain. It would have been a horrific accident, a reminiscence of the Mzimba Sec School. Thank God. Nobody lost life.
