2 brothers arrested for stoning man to death over ‘Sindiketi’

What started as a mere quarrel over a Sindiketi (beanie hat, the type of head dressing mostly liked by dreadlocked men) cost the life of one, James Banda, on Wednesday in Lilongwe.

Confirming the incident, Kanengo Police said the incident occurred at Ganizani Bar at Tsoka Village, TA Chitukula in Lilongwe Wednesday evening where Banda, 41, and two brothers, MacNeil, 17, and Austin Thombozi, 22, were drinking.

MacNeil Thombozi snatched the Sindiketi from Banda and when the latter protested a fight ensued between the two.

The older brother, Austin Thombozi, joined the fight siding MacNeil and the two allegedly fought Banda to death.

“They stoned Banda to death with bricks and postmortem revealed that death was due to internal bleeding and head injuries,” explained Salome Chibwana, Deputy Spokesperson for Kanengo Police.

The Thombozi brothers have since been arrested and they are charged with murder, contrary to Section 209 of the Penal Code and they will appear before court soon.

Austin and MacNeil hail from Tsoka Village TA Chitukula, Lilongwe, while Banda hailed from Khwawa Village, TA Wasambo, Karonga, according to Chibwana.
