2 interdicted for rape in Malawi health facilities: 26 for theft
Two officials working in the Ministry of Health are suspended as they are being tried for rape .
And there are 26 personnel from various public health facilities across the country interdicted for theft.
The rape suspects are Kanjere Msakambewa and Daniel Gama , a medical assistant and health surveillance assistant (HSA) , respectively.
Msakambewa is suspected of raping a 16 year-old girl while Gama is accused of fonding private part of a pregnant woman who went to the hospital for counselling.
“I have the honour Sir to submit a list of outstanding theft cases in the Ministry of Health as per our discussions of yesterday, 28th January 2016.
“In summary, 26 are theft cases and 2 are rape cases. Attached is the summery sheet for your information, Sir,” reads the memo addressed to Minister of Health Dr Peter Kampalume. It was issued on January 26, 2016.
The ministry also suspended over 60 health workers from Grade I to Grade P from various district health offices for various misconduct cases mainly fraud.
They include a principal secretary from the ministry headquarters, four senior accounts officers at two of the major referral health facilities in the country who were indicted for misappropriating government funds.
Those suspended over corruption cases include Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital Chief Accountant Agness Chirwa, Aubrey Samute and Tressa Joyce Chibwana, also serving at the facility as assistant accountant and accountant respectively.
Others are answering theft of medical drugs and supplies charges.
They include medical assistants, security guards, laundry attendants, pharmacy technicians and hospital attendants.

Its good those who steal are being dismissted and not transfered, there has been too much uchitsilu in district hopitals.
