Airtel Money: K360m injected into Malawi netball

Airtel Malawi has announced a historic K360 million sponsorship to Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) that will support national netball team and the nationwide league.

The sponsorship deal is for the period of three years which means K 120 million every year going towards the  Queens endeavor and the country wide netball league.

Airtel Money Country Director Andrew Santhe announced this in Lilongwe on Wednesday that the company has been touched with previous events where the national teamstruggled to get sponsorship from the private sector.

“Often times it has been disheartening to read in the press that our netball team has failed to participate in such and such tournament due to lack of funds. Each time you hear of a failure in netball, it is about funds failing the team and not the team being defeated. Today (Wednesday) Airtel says, enough of that cry, a game changer is here, ” said Santhe.

Santhe also said the company is always associated with the winning team hence sponsoring the Malawi Queens  as they are Africa’s best.

According to Santhe,  through this initiative, Airtel wants to support talent across the country by providing a real platform to both gin and identify netball skills.

However,  Santhe could not disclose details of the breakdown of the sponsorship, saying the company will do so at the launch slated in the next three weeks.

Speaking during the same function minister of Youth Development and Sports Enock Chihana commended Airtel Malawi for  a timely sponsorship as the team is going through financial constraints due to lack of sponsors.

“This is massive, very good for netball development in the country and this will also help to save tax payers money. The team has been going through financial problems so Airtel Malawi has come to our rescue ,“Chihana said.

NAM president Rosy Chinunda was on cloud nine saying time has come for the Queens to break the jinx into top four in the World.

“Am really overwhelmed, we are promising that we will continue to fly the country‘s flag high on the world map. The sponsorship is a morale boost and we will set targets to break into top four in the world,” said Chinunda.

Airtel Malawi has made the sponsorship through its popular product Airtel money.
