Analysts warn MCP over botched primary polls

Political experts have warned the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) that it might be heading for disintegration in its strongholds if the party continues to mishandle primary elections.

MCP voting in primaries

Political analyst Ernest Thindwa said announcements by some aspirants who lost during the elections and say they would stand as independents or want to join other parties is an indication that the party might not have members of parliaments in some areas deemed strongholds for the party.

“The messy and botched primary elections in some areas is an indicatiin that the stakes are high in the elections especially in central region where the party is strong and everyone who wins the elections is most likely to win the national elections,” he said.

Another political analyst Happy Kayuni said in most cases, the botched primary elections are as a result of party officials conducting the elections favouring one of candidates during the primary elections.

Kayuni said party officials were supposed to be non-partisan when conducting the election.

These analysts sometimes bring confusions…..they are emotional and spedy to vomit their thoughts without proper thinking……LET ME TAKE YOU BACK TO KALIWO ERA..You said lots and lots till Kaliwo was dealt politically and you used to glorify him….he is no longer a trouble and he shall never be…..You are not talking of him anymore…..Some issues are political and have political solutions not academic or theory knowledge……

You should have appreciated that MCP has made good progress in all these… There would be no smooth primaries where there is competition like central region……..

Some very good examples are here in Mchinji. We are just waiting. The party needs to stand up to the task. Otherwise, I can see trouble here.

To some extent the observation of Thindwa and afriend is true. In some cases these so called presidind party officials do come at theelection venues with preconcied winners. This results in chaos, and can weaken the party in the area. We have good examples, and we are just waiting for their official reports. We will see ther and then. We can even mention names of the officials in question. But we are waiting for optune time.

Which botched primaries are you talking about Mr. Thindwa? These are elections by their very name and you expect bitterness from the losers. The party forges ahead just as it has done the past decades. This is a solid party with rooted faithfuls and cannot be compared to these other unions of thieves which disintegrate as soon as they lose power.

From your response i reckon you are MCP. I appeal to you to take what the analysists are saying, they are not being enemies of MCP but saying the truth. Am MCP too but there are good examples that MCP as a party is trying to fix candidates in some areas. Tatopa kukhala ku opposition. We need to be careful with our primary elections otherwise come 2019 we will cry again

Ku Central region ngati munthu ungaime pa ticket ya MCP ma chances oti ungapambane amakhala ochuluka kwambiri nde game yagona pama primaries if you lose ndekuti ma chances oti ukhonza kukhala MP achepanso, amene akuti akaluza ma primaries ndikulengeza kuti aimila ngati independent MP asiyeni those are kicks of a dying horse. MCP ndi MCP basi ndi chipani chopanda mwinimwini ndipo chipani chilibe ma candidate akeake ask a Njobvuyalema akuuzani zimene akumana nazo. on this one the analyst has failed the analysis.

The political analysts sometimes make full of themselves. Have they been to places where the elections are being conducted? if people have lost they should just accept. If they want to join other parties, they are free, this is a democracy and MCP should know that. Those who lost if they feel people still love them they can stand as independents

kkkkkkkk tell that to MCP in general when they lose every single general election that they must accept the defeat and move on than being bitter. What’s happening in MCP during primary elections is exactly what MCP in general does when they lose general election, it’s in their genes.

The usual Malawi Crocodile Party burying its head in sand. Look at what happened to Jessie Kabwila, Juliana Lunguzi,, Njovuyalema, Nancy Tembo, Madalitso Kazombo, Khumbize Chiponda Chibwe etcetc. Then you say these primaries are not botched?

some comments show that writers does not the primary voting processes, firstly go into these find out what methods are used to select candidates. and really established who messed the election whether it was the party or aspirants, or votes/delegates. The party has systems which are used for primary elections. no kukondera.
