Angry mob torch to death suspected thief in Mulanje
An angry mob in Mulanje district on Thursday night burnt to death a 24-year-old man, Tenson Master for alleged theft.
The incident happened in Soza village in the district, police have confirmed.
Mulanje police Public Relations Officer, Gresham Ngwira told Nyasa Times, the victim was torched to death after being caught stealing from one of the houses in Soza village.
”On Thursday night the deceased broke into a certain house and stole a cellphone and a blanket,” said Ngwira. ”He was however caught by community members”.
Ngwira said while on the way to Muloza police station, irate people set the accused on fire and watched him writhing to death.
Law-enforcers visited the scene of the incident on Friday morning where they found the body of the victim.
”His relatives ordered the body to be buried immediately”.
Master hailed from Soza village, T/A Njema in the district.
Meanwhile, police have warned the general public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, as that is an offence.
”It is only police who are responsible for investigating and prosecuting those suspected to have broken any law,” added Ngwira.

We’re all a bunch of hypocrites, we’re the same as that criminal who was murdered. Who gives us the right to kill and then claim to be religious, why do we even bother to go to church? Police do not even investigate these so called mob justice, why? Yes it is wrong to steal, I have been robbed a couple of times myself but I can never wish death on anybody, not because I’m holy, but because it is immoral and unlawful.

Mob justice is escalating due to minimal and unreasonable fines or sentences given to this suspected thief once found guilty in court of law.Government must intervene with strong measures against this barbalic and inhuman tendency that has kept mute our sovern court and are at the verge of being paralyzed by its own Malawian citizens,resulting to cause ineffective.solution here is to call for the general public by sanctioning strong warning to any perpetrator found doing this evil act that wil face the law, this measures might be there already but actions never emerges.
