Archbishop says Bingu was visionary leader

Archbishop Thomas Msusa of the influential Catholic Church in Malawi who led a memorial mass of late president Bingu wa Mutharika at Ndata Farm in Tyholo said the late Mutharika was a visionary leader.

The memorial was attended by hundreds of DPP sympathizers led by Malawi President Peter Mutharika, senior party officials as well as government officials.

His Grace Msusa said the late Bingu who died on April 5 2012 from cardiac arrest was a man of virtue who always dreamt in colours.

“The late Bingu was a man of vision who was dreaming in colours,” said Msusa.

“Let us all emulate his life if we want to develop the country,” the Archbishop said, adding that the country was enjoying some of his achievements such as the new parliament building, Malawi University of Science and Technology and the Green belt initiatives.

Msusa therefore asked the President to continue where his elder brother, the late Bingu stopped especially by ensuring that Malawi was a hunger free nation.

The President led members of the Mutharika family and other dignitaries in laying wreaths at Mpumulo Wa Bata Mausoleum.

Other dignitaries who attended the memorial service included former president Dr Bakili Muluzi, former leader of Zambia Lupiya Banda and former president of the opposition Malawi Congress Party John Tembo, now retired.

Its sad to hear Hon Nankhumwa saying those allegations three years after the death of the former President. What Nankhumwa should know is that the late president was not just an ordinary citizen. After the death of the president am sure a postmortem must have been done to confirm the cause of the death. As Malawians let us move forward for the benefit of our country. Its not good to accuse the former president now such things happen in life and what he must be reminded is that all us one day we will die regardless of the cause. Even… Read more »

Visionary leaders are rarely found. It will take years to find another rare genius like Bingu! Only his weakness which led to his downfall is arrogance and adamance. His enemies capitalized on that to frustrate his efforts and he focused much on the ‘simungatero n sindingagonjere factors.’ let his soul RIP.

Bingu was visionary. He had his problems. He was better than Bakili, JB and APM. Had it been that this country was ruled by Bingu soon after Kamuzu this country could have been far ahead of our neighbors. He was distracted by APM’s ambitions. Anthu amene anasokoneza Bingu akulamulira now
