Bankers tell BB off over Chawanangwa transfer: Player turned down K300,000 cash offer

Deposed TNM Super League champions Silver Strikers have rebuffed champions Big Bullets on the request made by the ‘People’s team’ to sign Silver’s red hot striker Chawanangwa Kaonga, who had reportedly expressed interest to join Bullets.

Fote- We want to sign the player
Fote- We want to sign the player

On Monday, December 29, 2014 Bullets wrote Silver, requesting for the release of Kaonga, who, according to Bullets had shown interest to cross-over to the Bullets’ camp.

“Our intention is to make an outright signing of the player but if this arrangement will not fit into your plan, we can settle for a loan arrangement,” read the letter from Bullets signed by the club’s general secretary Harold Fote, which Nyasa Times has sourced.

While acknowledging receipt of the letter, Silver general secretary Mike Tembo declared in an interview with Nyasa Times that Chawanangwa is not for sale.

“We received the letter from Bullets yesterday and we have responded to them that Chawanangwa is not for sale,” said Tembo.

Asked if the Bankers were not infringing on the player’s rights to join a club of his choice, Tembo said: “It is not true that he had shown interest to join Bullets. After receiving the letter from Bullets, we contacted the player and he has denied the claims made by Bullets.

“The player has actually revealed that he was offered K300,000 by Bullets in order to join the club and he turned down the offer,” said Tembo.

Recently Bullets expressed their intention to get players from some Super League clubs on loan to help them in their Caf Champions League campaign but the club has off late been making efforts to permanently sign get the targeted players.

I am not surprised to learn that Silver has refused to sale Chawanangwa. Firstly, Bullets fans and officials are savages. Remember how Chimango Kayira was treated just because he was interested to play for Silver, up to the extent of forcing Chimango to apologise and weep because of the barbaric behaviour of the supporters. Secondly, Kondi and Fote have been lying that Chawanangwa himself expressed interest to join Bullets and it is a shame to discover that he was offered K300,000 and he refused. He is not a cheap player to woe! Those of you saying that Chawanangwa should join… Read more »
