‘Beware of gossipmongers’: Thyolo chief advises Mutharika against breaking ranks with VP Chilima

The only Lhomwe chief who is also a right hand man for President Peter  Mutharika on Saturday stunned people who gathered at Ndata Farm for Bingu wa Mutharika’s memorial service when he took time advising the President that he should be cautions of bad advisors who may be massaging his ego for ill intentions.

Traditional Authority Ngolongoliwa was amongst speakers during the late Bingu memorial service.

He said there were some people who always want to bring confusion and peddle lies said he should guard against them.

“These people will come to you will various pieces of advice but not all will be correct,” said Ngolongoliwa.

Ngongoliwa further advised Mutharika that no advisor should separate him with his Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima.

“If you start fighting amongst yourself it’s very dangerous because what will happen is that your Vice will be going and talking ill of you somewhere and you will also be disgruntled somewhere, but always remain united for your beautiful future,” said Ngolongoliwa.

The chief said the governing party should set focus in serving the people and ensure it delivers.

During the entire speech by the chief, Mutharika fondly known as APM was seen nodding his head agreeing to Ngolongoliwa’s advice.

In his remarks at the function, Mutharika expressed gratitude to the nation for joining him and the Mutharika family as they commemorated their brother, father, son and hero, among other things.

“The family was not able to hold this memorial ceremony for the past three years because the previous government grabbed Ndata Farm from us. We were denied access to this place,” said Mutharika.

“As we renew our pledge on this third anniversary of our loss, we also take pride in the progress we are making in building on his socio-economic dreams towards a better life for all and a more united society,” he said adding, “today must be better than yesterday and tomorrow should bring more joy than today.”

He described late Bingu as a selfless man whose sacrifices made it possible for Malawi to rise from her knees and become the second fastest growing economy in the World after Qatar.

“We are here to remember Bingu who was a selfless man and we salute him because through his determined struggles and efforts, he put our country on the promise of a just, united and prosperous country.”

The President, while asking Malawians to emulate the life of the late Bingu, also assured the gathering that his administration would do everything possible to ensure that they have access to basic services and more economic opportunities.

APM said his brother taught him a lot of things such as never to do anything halfway, how to live a fruitful life as well as never to judge others.

“As Bingu rests, let us do our part so that when our time comes, we should leave a better country than we found it,” he said.

During the event Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Secretary General Ekren Kudontoni called for undivided royalties towards the current President Mutharika.

Kudontoni said DPP will respect only those who helped DPP to take over government during the four way tripartite elections.

when it comes to issue of VP, let the president decides who to work with. in Malawi we vote for the president not the vice infact we should amend our constitution to allow the president to appoint and fire the vice president at will. What we have now is all wrong and zimakulisa mtima vice president knowing kuti sangachisedwe. Secondly my humble advice to the incumbent VP and those to come is that it is not a must that Vice presidents should succeed to power no. Ndiye osamakula mtima apa ayi.
