Blantyre mob torches suspected thief
A young man has died after being beaten and set alight by an angry mob in Blantyre who accused him of stealing the handbag which contained two smart phones, money amounting to K40,000 from a lady at Chinyonga bus stop.

Police confirmed about the gruesome killing and said the remains of the deceased to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH).
Particulars of the deceased were not independently verified.
Malawi has seen the rising cases of mob justice across the country in recent times.
President Peter Mutharika recently expressed shock, and spoke out against the plight of mob justice.
The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) Acting national Secretary, Martin Chiphwanya also added its voice to condemn mob justice and warned that people should not take matters into their own hands.
“It is worrisome to note that people have resorted to mob justice whenever the alleged cases of theft, robbery and witchcraft are reported in communities while we have courts and police officers,” Chiphwanya said.
Chiphwanya said law enforcement should make more of an effort to gain public trust so the public can desist from taking matters into their own hands due to distrust of the courts.

The police and courts treat these thieves with kid gloves. The best way is either to kill or torch them alive. This will slowly, but surely eliminate the thieves one by one because the one killed will not come back to haunt the people again, make them kanyenya for stray dogs to feed on.
Tiziba ndikukuphaninso mozizimutsa. We will revenge!!! Get ready!
justice has to be seen by people that it is delivered. Unfortunately our police and courts have in many cases I can site here failed to demonstrate that they can deliver justice hence this inhuman resolution. Unfortunately this reflects badly a failure by the government of the day. The question is where is the Home Affairs minister doing ? I wish the president started sacking non performing ministers
I like #3 kohl drogo! we all win in the end! I have liked the way u have linked the win-win scenario.

great punishment for thieves in malawi who should all wiped out by fire. you work hard to make money wina ndiye angokolola osalima?????
Theft and robbery are two different acts. Thefty needs to be verified through investigations, and this gives a suspect a benefit of doubt. In the course of this victims’ anger tends to subside. While robbery involves physical assort and there is no time to think over that. So whatever comes first in the intended victim rules the whole situation. And resultantly this has shown to be the best because both police and courts have become big beneficiaries of both robberies and theft. Having said this I think mobs are the only way to save common man out there. Keep it up, mobs.
No 12 sunaviwone amakubera ,kukuchitira ur wife and ana ako akazi ukuwona Lutepo anabera boma not individual
Good Job Blantyre. One thief down. Police tinasiya kuyikhulupilira kalekale
Fellow Malawians,
I plead with you all to avoid these gruesome killings on thieves, witches and wizards. Instead lets arrest and take them to police for justice to take its full course on them.
i know how painful it is when these people steal your hard earned property, but wait a minute..
Imagine, how can one lose his life for stealing a phone and only K40,000 cash as this young man has been treated yet Lutepo is still alive after stealing billions of tax payers money? Lets think about it. The punishment meted on this young man is too heavy and that is not justice at all. Lets stop this please.
Parallel market! You should accept that either

Idiot!
These animals called thieves have no rights to be protected. They are unwanted.
by lynching crime suspects, the public made strong statements about the state of security and the mistrust they have of the law enforcement in the country. what are the concerned agencies of government doing about these repeat statements? the agencies need to restore public trust of law enforcement. the agencies must inform the public about operation of the law on suspects. the public outcry is that when criminals are handed over to police, they are released to terrorize the public again. the public are saying this has to stop and they think they can stop it by eliminating the perpetrators of the terror. if this is the public solution, how can it be legalized in a humane way? is it time to start sending criminals to exile or to holding camps rather than to the grave, heaven or hell (by killing them)?
Sure signs of a primitive society, unable to appreciate that this is 21st century, behaving as if they are inj the dark ages, before even Christ set foot on earth, when people were living in caves
Which police are you talking about, The miss guided Police? The police which doesnt know the laws? Charging someone with treason while they dont have evidence? How? How do you bring the charge against someone and later you tell them we are still looking into matter? How in the first place did they determine that it must be treason? hahahahahahah MW police hahahahahah The Lomwe Police
