Bullets beat Silver 2-0, shoot closer to Malawi TNM Super League title

TNM Super League leaders Big Bullets have cemented their chances of retaining the title after beating Silver Strikers 2-0 at Kamuzu stadium on Saturday.

It was sweet victory as the defending champions, widely known as the People’s Team, also created a 10 point gap to cement their position at the top of the standing with 47 points from 20 games.

Military side, Mafco who were on bye, are second with 37 points from 21 games, two ahead of Silver Strikers who have equally played 21 games.

The visitors started the match with a clear intent of getting an early with enterprising forward Green Harawa and Midfielder Ndaziona Chatsalira dominating the midfield.

However, it was the People’s Team that took the lead through Daliso Sailesi 8th minute first-time connection after receiving the ball from Musa Manyenje, who had dribbled past a forest of defenders before chipping the ball into the penalty box for Manyenje to hit the back of the net.

There and then it was an open game with both sides attacking pace with both teams creating scoring opportunities, but their strikers were not sharp enough to translate them into goals.

Sensing danger, Bullets pulled out defender Miracle Gabeya for midfielder Davie Ng’ambi who changed the complexion of the game and locked the midfield for the visitors not manoeuvre.

The first have ended 1-0 in favour of Bullets.

Come second half, as the Bankers were yet to recover, Manyenje pounced three minutes from recess after collecting a loose ball to drift over Silver’s inexperienced goalkeeper Blessings Banda.

Bullets were apparently buoyed with the goal and continued to torment Silver defenders, pushing forward in numbers, with the likes of Chiukepo Msowoya, MacPhallen Ngwira, Jelesi Lufeyo and Ng’ambi .

The People’s Team nearly added another one in the twilight of the game, but Msowoya’s header was cleared off the line by defender Wonder Jeremani.

Bullets coach Mavuto Lungu hailed his charges for the gallant fight over the visitors.

“I would like to thank the boys for their effort to win this match because this was a very important game in our quest to retain the title this season.

“We don’t want to drop points as we are shooting closer to the title. The players have done a good job and we looking forwad to bagging more points from our remaining games,” Lungu.

While Silver assistant coach Lovemore Fazili, while conceding defeat, said they will still fight on up the last game of the competition.

“We played quiet well and created a number of chances, but lady lucky did not smile on us. We don’t have any pressure, dropping points its part of the game. It was must win game for us, but things did work out, we just have to concentrate on our next game against FISD Wizards tomorrow ,” said Fazili.
