Bullets hint on Airtel Malawi sponsorship

Malawi champions Big Bullets have hinted on the sponsorship from Airtel, one of the mobile phone network providers, for their participation in the CAF Champions League.

There has been fevered speculation that Airtel offered to bankroll the Bullets but there have been pitfalls with Super League of Malawi (Sulom) as the sponsorship deemed to be in direct conflict with TNM sponsorship of the flagship league. TNM is another mobile phone service provider.

Bullets chairperson Kondi Msungama disclosed a mobile phone network service provider has committed to assisting them with K5 million subject to Sulom’s approval.

Msungama did not want to mention “Airtel Malawi”  “until legal complications are cleared.”

He however said Bullets are grateful to them “because so far, that is the biggest sponsorship that we have been offered and we are hopeful that Sulom will give us the green light, because as we said, we do not see any direct conflict.”

Sulom president Innocent Bottoman asked their lawyer Felix Tambulasi to give a legal opinion before they take a stand.

Bullets has meanwhile slashed its budget for the trip to the Comoros Islands by half   from the initial K30 million to K15 million.

Msungama has since appealed to the club supporters  to assist their team by depositing at NBS Bank [Blantyre Branch] account number is 0020981070012.

Bullets will face Comoros Island in the preliminary round first-leg of the CAF Champions League scheduled for February 14.
