Bullets off to Sudan: Malawi champions coach upbeat

Big Bullets coach Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan says his players have vowed to work harder to achieve good result in the CAF Champions League first leg encounter against AI-Hilal on Sunday in Khartoum .

The Peoples team have endured a difficult month to say the least, with the infighting over financial matters casting a dark shadow on their campaign.

Ramadhan, however, has faith in his charges that they can reassert themselves in Sunday’s clash with champions of Sudan in Omdurman.

“We are geared to upset the tables despite going through a lot of problems. My players have promised me that they will do what it takes to win on Sunday,” Ramadhan told Nyasa Times, before the team’s departure at Kamuzu International Aiport on Wednesday afternoon.

“I think over the two weeks we have gone through serious challenges and although we understand what damage that can do both psychologically and emotionally we cannot keep citing those challenges as an excuse, we simply have to get better.

“Fortunately in facing AI-Hilal , no player will need any extra motivation for, it is one of the big games in our calendar and the players relish playing in these type of games. We obviously need to get out of this and find our comfort zone again so yeah we know that if we do well against them then we can just finish the job in Blantyre.

“It’s going to be a difficult task but we have to try and get a win against them for sure. We had a long meeting this week to just try and speak to the players and create a forum to voice opinions and I think that was a fantastic discussion because the players got an opportunity to give their input. It was all positive and the players promised that they were prepared to work harder to try to turn things around.”

In Bullets team news, their doubtful defender Sankhani Mkandawire started training again on Monday after shaking off a knee injury which he suistained in their friendly game against Caps United.

Former Civo United midifielder Dave Ng’ambi remains on the sidelines with an injury and was replaced by Ian Chinyama.

Bullets’ 25-member delegation is led by Football Association of Malawi (FAM) executive member Othaniel Hara while on the part of Bullets, Kondi Msungama is the team leader.

Other officials on the trip are general secretary Harold Fote, technical director Billy Tewesa, team manager John Phiri, coach Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan, his deputy Lloyd Nkhwazi, goalkeeper trainer Swadick Sanudi and team doctor Godfrey Ng’ambi.

The players are Vincent Gona, Chimwemwe Kumkwawa, Pilirani Zonda, Yamikani Fodya, Sankhani Mkandawire, Bashir Maunde, Miracle Gabeya, Fischer Kondowe (Captain), Dalitso Sailesi, Victor Limbani, Henry Kabichi, James Chilapondwa, Jaffalie Chande, Tizgobere Kumwenda and Mussa Manyenje.
