Bushiri Academy of Sports launched in SA: Malawian prophet wants to develop football stars

The academy was launched in South Africa at a colourful event that attracted African Football legends including Esrom Nyandoro and Tiyani Mabunda OF Sundowns,  Abel Shongwe from Kaizer  Chiefs, William Okpara from Orlando Pirate and Ziggy, an official from SAFA. Former Celtic player Gideon also graced the historic event.

Speaking to the local media that attended the event, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, popularly known as ‘Major 1’ explained that its upon his social responsibility to give back to the community, citing talent promotion as part of his quest.

“I believe in young people and it has always interested me to uplift different talents. I came up with this academy in particular to reach out to the growing numbers of soccer talents. I know others might cite that I do not have football history, but I love soccer and I believe those passionate about the sport should be mentored and uplifted to realize their dreams,” explained the man of God.

“This is a project that will put a lot of youngsters on map and I intend to spend millions just to give them a challenging platform for the enhancement of their football talents,” he said.

He added: “ It’s so amazing to see how we have started, everything is on a high note and you can even see the excitement of the youngsters available here today, most of whom have already been spotted by big clubs to be signed to.”

Prophet Bushiri demonstrates his love for talents not just in football, but in music and poetry. He is currently promoting a number of artists in Africa including Malawi’s Onesimus , a musician who is currently on Africa tour and has so far planned a big concert for him in Botswana.

Shepherd Bushiri Academy has so far confirmed plans to send the young football stars to Europe for further training and possibilities of being signed to big football clubs.

According to Bushiri, the project will expand across Africa, including Malawi where he plans to unearth, uplift and promote young and talented football stars, to establish them and expose their talents to the whole world.

I am a south african n i hav not yet seen or heard him preach. Lets js all remember that the bible says that a prophet will be hated n shunned by his own people. This prophet has made a name for himself and God is leading the way. Dont hate, let him be.

Bushiri is Tumbuka his mother is Tumbuka and he has grown up in Rumphi and Mzuzu, he has copied all the tribal aspects of Northerners…..thats what we are seeing. Bring federation to Malawi, in ten years time, ALL of you will be flocking to Mzuzu. And you know it…..

Farther from Ntcheu, mother from Mzimba. Surely lobola was paid as Ngoni culture demands. Then he is from Ntcheu where his farther comes from not in Mzimba. Parents settled in Rumphi not for chikamwini reasons as it is not the Ngoni custom. Bottom line he is not Tumbuka. I rest my case.

@Mtumbuka wa Tumbuka, can you see how embarrassing your attitude is towards other tribes, after realising that Major 1 is not Tumbuka? Leave Man of God alone. Do not drag him in your tribal issues. A Tumbuka growing up in Liliongwe, that does not make him a Chewa. otherwise 90% of you could have been Chewas.
