Bushiri column ‘Bible Up-Close’: Understanding your real identity through Jesus Christ

I often encounter people who assume that God sees them as worthless throwaways, deserving to be cast into the nearest hellfire, or punished by His wrath. The truth is, God doesn’t see you or anyone else that way. He sees you as His beloved creation, with whom He desires to spend eternity.

The bible clearly states in 2 Corinthians through the Apostle John Paul, “17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation. 19 That God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them, and He has committed to us the message of reconciliation.”

The death and resurrection of Christ symbolizes our own death to self and resurrection to a new holy life. Through this very act, our garment of heaviness and pain was exchanged for his garment of righteousness and peace. Isaiah 61:3 – “and provide for those who grieve in Zion,to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,the oil of joy instead of mourning,and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.”

For this very fact, many christians today can boldly declare that it is no longer the humanity in them that lives but Christ’s divinity that is now in operation.

I have also encountered people who, because they have a faulty perception of God, continually strive to have enough, do enough, or showcase to be good enough to gain God’s approval.

But God does not evaluate anyone on the basis of things external or behavioral. God doesn’t see you or any other person through the lens of a bank account, a family tree, a job, or a set of accomplishments. God has formed each and every one of us in such a way that we are self-sufficient in His sufficiency. By Him we have been made whole, despite the material things and the worlds report.

Many people seek to find material things in order to attain recognition and in order to build their esteem but I want to let you know that the latter are better off to only be fruits of what you already have inside of you.

Learning to see ourselves as God sees us is key to getting our spiritual identity in focus and also to become who God has predestined us to be. That is to be victorious, successful and to fully takeover every sector of this world.

The very essence of self-discovery is seeing yourself apart from all other relationships and responsibilities. The “core you” is the you that exists even if you aren’t somebody’s parent, child, spouse, employer or employee, pastor, friend, or so forth.

I want to encourage you to take time out and allow God to reveal the real you to yourself. A person destined for success and not failure, to conquer and dominate not to be suppressed. Let the Lord show you a righteous path and lead you through this walk of life with strength, dignity and love.
