Candlex boss accused of causing accident after drink driving

General Manager of Candlex Malawi Limited, Fredrick Changaya has been accused  of reckless driving by Malawi police for causing a road accident which has seen 18 people injured.

Changaya on Saturday morning driving Toyota Land Cruiser registration BS 3181, collided with a minibus Toyota Hiace registration BQ 1046 which had passengers on board.

The accident occurred along Magalasi road near Blantyre Girls School, some meters way from Nyambadwe Puma Filling Station, in Blantyre City.

Blantyre police Public Relations Officer, Elizabeth Divala told Nyasa Times that five of the passengers sustained serious injuries while 13 others sustained minor injuries.

“We are currently waiting for medical reports on the injured passengers, but Mr. Changaya will be charged of a traffic offence for causing the accident,’ explained Divala.

Divala said Changaya, 43, would be charged in accordance to Road Traffic Act (RTA) for causing the accident after he failed to keep his lane.

He hit the minibus driven by Ian Dimba which was coming from Magalasi old Chileka road going towards Blantyre town.

“Upon arrival at Blantyre Girls School, a vehicle coming from opposite direction which was being driven by Mr. Fredrick Changaya who failed to keep nearside of the road and hit a mini bus from opposite direction,” added Divala.

Reports indicate that Changaya who hails from Wimbe village in Kasungu district, was drunk at the time of the accident and was in a company of a female colleague.

Fredrick Changaya has been commiting alot of serious offences but our MOST CORRUPT POLICE always set him free. You will see this case……it will die a natural death.
He is cruel to casual lebourers at Candle. LET’S WAIT AND SEE.

What time did the accident happen? Morning as in wee hours of Saturday? Abwana anali kunja nthawi yimeneyo in the company of a female colleague or wife? Surely not drunk, hee!!!
